An Ear for a Story

Despite having a face for radio, I never thought of myself as also having an ear for it. That’s why I’m delighted to be getting a chance to try my hand at radio journalism this summer. For the next 15 weeks I’ll be volunteering at Crosscurrents, an award-winning daily news magazine on KALW Public Radio.

Here I am accosting people to tell me what neighborhood they’re from out front Bi-Rite, one of San Francisco’s hottest spots for a cold, creamy treat. The best quote of the day came from a little boy who said, in the most astonished and mature tone, “I have no idea where I’m from!”

Tune in to 91.7FM on Thursday, August 27 at 5:00 to hear a piece I helped produce for Julie Caine’s AudioGraph, a call-in show that tests people’s knowledge of the Bay Area’s Sonic Signature.
